My life is now such that much of the time, I only have time for 140 charterer chunks, but I do my best to use all 140 of them.

If you’re interested enough to read this PLEASE follow me @Clyatt on Twitter, most days there is at least one new Tweet.

Follow @Clyatt

Of course, I’m still posting as much as I can to Flickr … a couple of the newest are to the right, click on one to get you to my photo blog; as of 5/31/11; the newest pics are of storm damage in my neighborhood.

I remain so blessed to have my position with CBS21 – CW15, the station really came together under some of the toughest conditions I have ever worked under during the recent tornados, I like many will be glad to see May become history.

I started the month sick and I am ending the month that way … but I hope to recover ASAP, hopefully will get into a doctor on the 31st?

Waited four hours at the ER at Harrisburg Hospital and NEVER got seen even though I was on the floor of the ER in pain … unless I am going die in the next five minutes or on a work assignment, I will never set foot in there again … unreal!

Zero expectations that this will work, but I’ll try and there will be more details to come;

I need some help, for both me and my son … maybe you do too?

It does not matter if you are a man or a woman, only that you’re a parent of a elementary school age child and you need 30 hours a day to get everything done … you are not alone. What I am hoping for is a ‘parenting partnership’ … I’ve never heard of such a thing, but maybe we could create one?

If it sounds like an interesting idea … e-mail and let me know what is going on in your life!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and let’s all hope June is a better month for us all than was May!

Lately I don’t go to sleep, I collapse … wake up with the light still on and a book on my chest.

I’m not an Atheist, I am an Agnostic, however I do believe in karma, the power of the community (group) to do both good and bad, miracles and that our planet, our Mother Nature is very much alive and as a person her moods change … almost in a literal way with the wind.

The better we treat her … the better she will treat us.

Another Miracle? … I don’t know if I deserve one, but I want one.

I am so blessed by the miracle that I have returned to TV … early in my career never would I have guessed that the place I would be so ‘wanted’ would be Pennsylvania. I’m now on my 5th station in PA. I have come to slowly love the state, the hundreds of cities, townships and boroughs and of course our viewers.

Second only to Florida, Pennsylvania has the oldest average age in the USA so I still have a chance … at least for a few more years. (I am no longer young and beautiful enough for places like Miami) Some of my photogs are young enough to be my kids … they teach me ‘new tech’ and I teach them ‘old school’.

Friday, at last warm enough for my fingers to actually feel the microphone, having the lights on and the sat truck sending the shot to Galaxy 16 from historic Chambersburg, PA; I took a second to feel blessed. That somehow out of oblivion, at one point even being homeless and living in my car, the karma of life (God?) had brought me back.

You don’t know how good something can feel until you know it is gone forever and then, almost like magic, it is back.

I have been a victim, but I have also been a victim of my own, OK I’ll say it … stupidity.

This morning as I awoke with the light still on, the winter sun streaming through the blinds and the February wind howling … the jet is interacting with the surface wind and today we are getting just a tiny taste of how strong the jet stream can be!

The dream was so vivid and real and then … just a dream.

Her name is Andra … and she transcended life, she was magic in motion, as close to Mother Earth as any person I have ever known and yet as aggressive, tough and fragile as the tigers she loves and cared for with such passion. (For more, wait for my book, ‘Tangled Wires’ … hopefully it’ll be done while I am still of this earth?)

More than ten years ago due to my own ego, pride and yes, stupidity, I let her slip away. The fault was mine, yet somehow in the wind this morning I could almost feel her presence … only a dream of the wind.

I knew TV was gone forever … I know that Andra is gone forever.

An interesting ‘mind game’ (ego) project; had to write a new bio for work. How close will this be to what shows up on the station site? OK so here is the last 30 years of my professional life, at least the highlights, in just a few paragraphs;

Reporter/Meteorologist Kirk Clyatt came back to broadcasting and to CBS21 in December 2010 after working for Apple, Inc.

“It was quite an education to become intimately familiar with Apple’s amazing products, but it is great to be back home in broadcasting and in Pennsylvania.”

Kirk holds the seal of approval from both the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and the National Weather Association (NWA).

Kirk may be new to CBS21, but not to Pennsylvania as he was seen in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area on WBRE and for three years in Philadelphia on WCAU and WPHL.

While working in Baltimore for WBFF/WNUV Kirk was awarded two Emmys for “Outstanding Weathercast” in the National Capitol Region.

Kirk also anchored weather for CNN and CNN International.

As an instrument rated aircraft pilot and the former owner of a Cessna 172, Kirk learned the true power and fury that Mother Nature can unleash after he flew thru a thunderstorm over Iuka, Mississippi .

Kirk started his broadcasting career in radio and even worked on a ‘Pirate Radio Ship’ in Europe’s North Sea. Kirk is still heard on radio in Australia, he is into his 10th year as the back-up USA News Presenter for 3AW in Melbourne, Victoria and now also heard weekday mornings with USA News on 6PR in Perth, Western Australia.

There is not much that Kirk won’t do; from diving on the Great Barrier Reef, to running marathons, to trying to pretend he was a professional athlete. Scrimmaging with the Baltimore Blast soccer team put Kirk in the hospital, but at least the story won an award for the Maryland Sports Feature of the year.

Kirk was born in South Carolina, but grew up in nearby Maryland and is the proud father of two children Kylee and Zane, Kylee is a student at Harvard.

Sorry for again the long delay in posts, but so much has been going on I can barely catch my breath.

That is the joy of life … one day it just turns!

Without going after it and thinking my TV career was history … I’m Back!

Yup and in Pennsylvania … seems to be the only state that wants me, as this is my 5th station in the state … far above any other!

I feel blessed to be here … www.CBS21.com (Hey what happened to the rest of the state? Most of my market is in the lower right corner)

mmm … you can you see the whole state on the mobile site, but not on a ‘normal’ browser? Wish that were one of my bigger problems in life!

As much as I love Apple, I really had some amazing co-workers … did get a great iMac out of the deal … nothing like being out in the ‘real’ world for over a year to make me appreciate being back inside the TV!

I also did some work for the Census … oh working in Appalachia the stories I could tell, but as part of job I promised not too … let me put it this way, some hollows I went into were much more intimidating to me than North Philly or North Ave. in Baltimore.

Have a great new apartment, just down the street from the governor’s mansion … but he does have a much nicer house!

I may never get fully moved in though as now for 2nd time because of storms I’ve had to cancel getting my ‘stuff’ out of storage in VA!

Remind me never to try to move in the winter again!

At the same time more part-time work in Australia has returned; in addition to my long-time role as the relief USA News anchor for 3AW in Melbourne … in March I’ll be beginning my 10th year with the Ross & John Breakfast Program, but I’m also now back as the primary USA news anchor for 6PR in Perth.

This time of the year you can hear my reports on-line Sunday-Thursday at about 4:50 PM USA EST, which is 5:50AM the next day in Perth!

www.6pr.com.au

BTW: Tiny keeps rolling on … he’ll hit 250,000 any day now!

I sorry to report that ‘Raddison’ has gone to rodent heaven, but he was a great pet, lived about two years … I’m surprised how upset I was to see him after he had gone to the afterlife. He was most of the fun of a VERY small dog without being as hyper and none of the barking!

More soon, but of course ‘soon’ is open to interpretation … gotta get ready for our next winter blast!

Hope to hear from you … stay warm & be good! Just 48 days until spring!

Sincere wishes that all turns out the way you want it to.

Glad Tiny is returning from the moon too!

Thanks for the ad…would love to see more Tangled Wire excerpts….you seem to radiate a comical sadness with a tad of desperation, and all with perfect hair!

I find it….. captivating.

Above is a note I received from a reader via Facebook … well I am not so sure about the hair, but at least I still have mine.

I do have a new job, which is exhausting, but educational in many ways and have moved back to Maryland … however with my ongoing legal odyssey to protect my son, I am now part of the ‘working poor’ … a position that I never would have guessed I would be in ten years ago … all part of the adverture of life.

Honestly have not had much time to work on the book with all of my other obligations, but I will post an excerpt within the next week.

Of course a car is not real … it is just a machine, it doesn’t have feelings, it is just a collection of mechanical parts that move you from place to place, but I can’t help feeling that maybe cars can have a soul?

Just like people it doesn’t matter where they come from, foreign or domestic, special ones almost seem to be alive.

My gray ’82 Camaro lives on in its retirement car port on my daughter’s mother’s farm in very rural Holmes County Florida … its brakes are bad, its parking brake nonexistent, but its engine still has power … it still is the Camaro Cruiser!

So strange, but I feel the same way about the car you might feel about and old cherished friend, but it is not alive … or is it?

I was just 23 years old when the Cruiser came into my life … even though Rhonda and Kylee have had the car for years, when I last visited and was cleaning the car out in the center consul (glove compartment) I found what was a kind good-bye note from my first wife Janice.

As the years have passed I have appreciated so much of what Janice did for me, she was over ten years older, in some ways a mother figure, mom with benefits. I was a wild teenager and she somehow knew how to handle me and taught me much, without her God only knows how long it would have been until I found out where a salad fork went or what suit size I wore, I still have my first suit that we bought in 1979 and eventual paid for, $10 a month … to find the note that the car had been holding for more than twenty years was like to be taken back in time to a different direction that my life could have, maybe should have taken.

Unless the Camaro dies in a wreak … hopefully one day Zane will get to drive it, he already loves the car just as I do. When he gets his license in 2018 the Camaro will be 36 years old!

Even though I all too rarely see it, it would be hard to take for the car to be gone … I almost feel as long as the car is hanging on, so is at least a small part of my youth.

The Camaro will get a new friend … the only question is when.

“Dad you’re going to roast in this car!”, said my eight year old Kylee when she first got to see ‘Tiny’ on a day with near record late April heat.

Kylee in April of 1998, not much older than Zane is now.

Tiny may have been one of the last cars to come without standard air conditioning, plus in HX you only had a choice of red or black … being black has just made it all the hotter.

Air conditioning was a $1,500 option about the same price at the time of a laptop computer, since I didn’t drive that much, at the time, and wasn’t going to keep the car that long, I went with the laptop.

Last year at our yard sale I sold the laptop and a nice case for $40.

Tiny is a 1998 Black Honda Civic HX … a car that gets over 40 MPG … didn’t seem to important back in ’98 when gas was under $1 per gallon and money was not an issue, but the last few years it has been very much appreciated.

As I write this (May 25, 2010) our Moon is 233,329.2 miles away … Tiny has almost made it, the question is will he be able to make it back?

When Tiny was born in February of 1998, I had a ’96 Ford Explorer, but Kylee’s Mom just had to have it … so to keep a good relationship with her, which we have always more or less had, she took over the payments and got it.

I was working and living in Baltimore as a TV weatherman. I thought about getting a Volvo C70 convertible, but since I was living in the city, I thought I would get a smaller less expensive car just to keep a couple of years and would not have to worry so much about it getting dinged up.

Of course due to the turns of life a couple of three years has now turned into more than 12 … my eight year old blue-eyed little girl is now a beautiful young woman of 20 and of course Tiny is all that Zane has ever known.

Looking back at who I was in 1998 my life since then has been a bigger challenge then that I ever would have imagined … more than one night I slept in Tiny at highway rest stops … Zane and I have slept in Tiny together in route to or from Florida.

Though it all with only two exceptions, no matter how rough the going was Tiny has been there for me.

Tiny even almost seemed to heal himself … for many thousands of miles the check engine would come on. I had a couple of dealers look at it and independent mechanics, the light would go off for a day or two and then right back on.

On the eve of President Obama’s inauguration I drove into DC to get a feel of what the excitement was like, of course the traffic was crushing and just as I got into DC Tiny started to lose power, I thought this may be it for my old friend; it seemed maybe I had lost a cylinder or worse. Was the Whitehurst Freeway in bumper-to-bumper traffic where Tiny was going to die?

I didn’t dare to turn off Tiny, never made it to the National Mall, but did manage to limp home.

I took Tiny in the next day and there was nothing wrong, the mechanics could find NOTHING, plus the check engine light has not been on since then … it was like the car had healed itself! To this day I still have no idea what happened, but Tiny has performed flawlessly since then. Mmm … the check engine light was only on during the Bush administration.

During my trip to the Moon with Tiny there was only one other scary moment, this is a brief except from my book ‘Tangled Wires’ (My hope is to get my life untangled enough to actually get it finished before I expire.);

It was a warm sticky day in Philadelphia, it was spitting rain, I rushed to get what I was taking to the storage room, about six miles away from my apartment as quickly as I could, returned the truck, stopped at the post office to get a money order to pay the rent, but the line was way too long. What was it Christmas in August?

Driving from the post office in Bala Cywnyd, a road I had taken hundreds of time, my car a ’98 Honda Civic with 143,000 miles, but never an accident, affectionately known as ‘Tiny’ to me and my son Zane started to swerve to the left on the rain slick road, I wasn’t going any faster than I had gone many times before, maybe 35-40 mph, but suddenly I was out of control, after doing a 360 ‘Tiny’ hit a curb and the car went up over the curb, I hit my head.

For ‘Tiny’ it could have been worse, I limped the car to a parking lot and could hear the air leaking out of a tire, one of the wheels was bent and broken.

The tire was going flat fast, but I was able to get the car the half mile to home. It ended up being a $1,200 repair … more money that I don’t have that had to be spent.

My head hurt, but I thought I was OK. I wanted to try to change the tire, but I had no time as it was now 5pm and I was trying to catch an 8pm flight to Fort Myers.

So maybe Tiny is not really alive … but on our many trips between Virginia and Maryland Zane and I almost always do improve where Tiny is part of our conversation and one of us is talking for Tiny … strange, but I almost feel that the car is telling me what to say.

My Camaro was with me almost every day for 11 years, before I bought a ’93 Chevy C1500 Extended Cab Pick-Up – Blue Huge – that is still now with Rhonda and Kylee, but Tiny has now been with me even longer.

How much longer? That is one of the mysteries of life, but hopefully long enough to earn a very well deserved retirement in Florida with Camaro Cruiser … together those two cars represent an intimate and every day experience for close to a quarter of a century.

Who knows … sure Tiny may not really be alive, but to me he will always have a soul.
